The most popular commission I do is the house portrait. It’s a wonderful gift to receive or even give yourself. These box shaped structures we live in, our homes, represent hard work and love but, more importantly, they hold many memories. This is why our homes are the perfect artistic subject because they are filled with meaning and memories.
I have found over the years of painting home portraits many people are unsure and even a bit intimidated by commissioning an original work of art. So, I’ve laid out the commission process for ease and understanding.
Look at my work and the examples of past house paintings I have done so you see the style of watercolor painting I do. Then decide on the size you would like. I’ve listed the sizes I paint below.
I paint from photographs. So, gather several photos of your home. Make sure the photos include your entire home in good light and not in shadow. Strong sunlight can produce strong shadows. In photographs it’s difficult to see the details in shadow. I like to look at several picture to get a correct idea of color and what the best point of view to paint from. TIP: Professional photographs taken by your real estate agent are the best. You will then need to send these pictures to me via email.

I will arrange a time to speak with you on the phone to get more details about the house. This often has to do with landscape, certain plants or trees, colors, etc.
Once a deposit of half the amount of the painting is received, I will begin work on your painting. It can take as long as 4 weeks especially around the holidays, but often it takes less time.
When I have completed your painting, I send you a photograph of the painting. Then send it to you via UPS or FEDEX insured in a tube upon receipt of the final half of the painting. (The shipping is included in the price.) You will need to get it framed yourself.
